Flood Relief

As it was declared a holiday on 26th Oct 2013 due continuous heavy rainfall and severe flood situation in several districts of the state, a group of around 30 volunteers and as many as 10 teaching/non-teaching staff of the PG Council have conducted relief camps in nearby flood affected villages/slums on that day. The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor and the PG Council Chairperson accompanied by the relief team had left the town by 8:30 am with packed food items, clothes, water pouches, medicines and other essential commodities like soaps, candles, match boxes, plastic mugs, bed sheets, towels etc. The volunteers surveyed and conducted rescue and relief work in a number of flood affected villages, slums, residential schools within 20 km range from the Remuna Square. Throughout the day, the volunteers had distributed Chuda, Mudhi, Biscuits, Suger, medicines, clothes, water pouches etc among people, helped villagers in transporting their households from waterlogged areas to safe places, prepared shelters ( polythene  Tents) for flood destitute.  The spirited team had helped as many as 200 affected families by 6pm in the evening and returned back with a mixed feeling. Volunteers were as grieved as the flood victims witnessing their miseries but at the same time they had the pleasure of the help that they could provide to the needy.
