Around 600 Saplings of different plant species including Teak (Sagwan), Gold Mohur (Krishnachra, Radhachura), Neolamarckia cadamba (Kadamba), Champa (Magnolia champaca), Mango, Black Berry (Jamun), Areca nut (Gua), Guava, pomegranate, Lychee, sapota are planted in the Old and New campus of the University during the plantation week (25th -31st July 2013).

Medicinal properties of Jamun:

1. The extracts of the bark, seeds and leaves are used for the
treatment of diabetes.
2. The leaves have antibacterial
properties and used for strengthening teethes and gums.
3. A
decoction of the bark and powdered seeds is believed to be very useful in the
treatment of diarrhea, dysentery and dyspepsia
4. A decoction of
bark is used in cases of asthma and bronchitis and are gargled or used as
mouthwash for the astringent effect on mouth ulcerations, spongy gums, and
stomatitis.
5. It is a very
good source of carotene, iron, folic acid, calcium potassium, magnesium, phosphorus
and sodium. It has high levels of Vitamin C.
6. To remove body
weakness, treat anemia, increase memory take 1 tsp each of jamun juice, honey
and amla juice every day in the morning.
7. Eating jamuns
stimulates the liver and relieves bladder problems.
8. For treating
pimples, grind the dry seeds. Add some cow's milk and apply on the pimples
while going to bed at night. Wash in the morning. Continue for a few days.
9. For Acidity, eat jamuns
with black salt and roasted cumin seed powder.
Some Precautions
Don't eat Jamun on empty stomach and don't drink milk after consuming jamun.
Do not eat them in excess as it may cause body aches and fever.
